Day-Long Introduction to the Enneagram: Discovering Our Hidden Motivations and Our True Selves

Saturday, June 29, 2024

10:00AM-5:00PM PST

Cost: $125; $75 Early Bird by 6/08/23

*This workshop takes place virtually through Zoom. There will be a break for lunch.

  • This introductory workshop will provide an overview of the Enneagram and help you identify your type.

Through discussion and small group exercises, we will explore how the Enneagram illuminates the paradoxical truth that the biggest gifts of our personality also create the greatest stumbling blocks on our life path. Once we can recognize the ways we self-sabotage and limit our own freedom, we can begin to make different choices in how we respond to the world and bring more of our true self to our work, relationships and spirituality. The Enneagram also helps us have more compassion and understanding for others in our lives, when we realize that there are nine different ways to approach the world, each bringing an essential, yet also incomplete, perspective.

The Enneagram is a deep and complex system, but this introduction will provide tools and insights to begin to work with our personality, instead of being held captive to it.

  • At the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

    Identify your likely Enneatype

Articulate an understanding of each of the 9 Enneagram types, including each type’s motivation, unique gifts and blind spots

Understand the basic desire and fear for your Enneagram type

Identify the pathway each type takes in stress and security

Use the typology system to bring more compassion and empathy for yourself and others, allowing you more space to respond constructively when triggered by interactions with friends, colleagues or family

Practice tools to develop a stronger inner observer and begin to have more freedom in how you respond to life’s challenges

You are in prison [of your personality]. If you wish to get out of prison, the first thing you must do is realize that you are in prison. If you think you are free, you can’t escape.

The Enneagram and Art as Meditation: A Creative Exploration of Your Type's Growth Path

Saturday, October 1, 2022 10:00AM - 3:00PM PST -

Sunday, October 2, 2022 10:00AM-3:00PM PST

Cost: $225; $200 Early Bird by 9/16 (includes art materials: oil pastels and paper)

Registration Deadline: Sunday, Sept. 24, 2022

*No art experience or skill required. Ideally, participants know their enneagram type. This workshop takes place over two days virtually through Zoom. It is necessary to attend both sessions. Each day includes a one hour lunch break.

  • Do you already know your Enneagram type and want to go deeper?

Identifying one’s Enneagram type is a crucial step on the journey to self awareness and conscious living, but it is only the beginning.

The wisdom of the Enneagram provides clear guidance for each type to move towards realizing our full potential and being more free from our compulsive thoughts and behaviors. The Enneagram also helps us understand the unconscious parts of ourselves that are comfortable in our unhealthy patterns and resistant to change.

Using the medium of oil pastels and the practice of art as meditation, we will delve into the images and colors that surface from our unconscious mind as we explore our own unique experience of our type’s core suffering. We will also discover two pathways to growth and liberation for each type. Small group exercises and practices to bring our three Centers of intelligence (Thinking, Feeling, and Instinct) into greater alignment will support us in diving more deeply into our own experience.

As the theologian Matthew Fox writes, “[The poet] Rainer Maria Rilke was fond of saying that words are the last resort for expressing what happens deep within oneself. By letting go of our overdependence on words, we allow images, symbols, pictures to emerge….art as meditation takes one on deeper, more communal journeys than words can ever do.”

Participants must register by Saturday, Sept. 24 to allow enough time to receive art materials (oil pastels and paper) by mail.

  • At the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

Recognize more of your own internal reactivity and blocks to change

Have a felt experience of all of the types

Understand your type’s two main growth paths and learn new practices for unlocking the gifts of your type

Use the tools and principles of art as meditation to deepen your journey

Once you accept your children’s basic nature, you can contour your style to meet their temperament. To do so means letting go of your fantasies of yourself as a certain kind of parent and instead evolving into the parent you need to be for the particular child in front of you.

If your emotional abilities aren’t in hand, if you don’t have self-awareness, if you are not able to manage your distressing emotions, if you can’t have empathy and have effective relationships, then no matter how smart you are, you are not going to get very far.
